I hate the phrase “fashion icon”. In fact, I hate the overuse of the phrase icon and “iconic” generally, but fashion is a specifically heinous offender.
Generally, it’s because fashion journalists are lazy and can’t think of other words to use, or be bothered to articulate terminology to express their ideas without resorting to lame cliche.
Other words I can’t abide in a fashion context are: genius (there really aren’t many. Alexander Wang certainly isn’t one); hero piece; trophy piece; art (fashion isn’t art); masterpiece (usually used in conjunction with art, hence my issue); DNA (lazy, lazy, lazy). Luxury is also overused/misused.
Rant over. But I do like Naomi.
you could have just said “yes” and kept it moving but ok
